Welcome!

My name is Aleksandra Gumennaya and I go to International School of Moscow where I study A Level Media Studies along with my other subjects. Below you can find the coursework I have created. Enjoy!

For the my project in A level, I chose to focus on music videos, as I adore making videos with an interesting and unusual narratives. Moreover, throughout my IGCSE research, music videos have become an interest of mine as I got curious how someone could attract an audience with videos.

The process of choosing the right genre for my music video was very difficult for me. The reason for this is because I wanted to choose a topic that fascinates me and will be able to share this passion with my audience. However, with that in mind I also wanted to choose a genre that was original, unique and undiscovered by the music industry. Furthermore, I enjoy watch old videos from 1960’s – 1980’s. I find it satisfying how people created such amazing videos long time ago. In the end, I decided to create a glam rock music video, focusing on the icon style of Elton John. Exactly this person became my inspiration for this project.

When visiting the other pages you will find all of my research, analysis and findings which will further showcase my process of creating my own music video, website and digipack. In my “Final Project” page, you will be able to find a link which will take you to another website. There you will be able to see my other projects which will be dedicated to Elton John.

About

The aim of my project is to produce a Glam Rock music video, a digipack and a website which will be showcased on my blog on Word Press and Webnode. After my research on codes and conventions, audience, theories, branding and institution, I am planning to create a promotional package for my future Elton John last album.

I am currently in the process of analysing music videos from different times, starting form 1950’s – 1980’s. I decided to continue the idea of old times from my previous project in AS level. My target audience is the new generation from age 15 and above. I want to recreate old music video from 1980’s, so young audience who had never watched or heard the song, will be able to listen to iconic songs for the first time. My future music video, website and digipack will help to promote the album and the image of the artist.

For all 3 of my products, I’m looking forward to have my designs based on the overall genre of ‘rock and pop’ (most likely during 80’s) rather than specifically ‘glam rock’. I will have a deep research into codes and conventions of different websites and digital packages of other successful and famous artists, so later I will be able to learn and take examples for my own product.

Most likely, I will use very similar methods of research as I used last year. In my personal blog, I will demonstrate every step of my project and will explain every detail. For my music video and digipack, I will use Adobe Premium Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and others.

In my future music video I will have a mix of different genres, styles, costumes and dance moves. I will focus more on choreography and colourful costumes. My focus will be on Elton John and his unique style. I chose the song “I’m still standing” that inspired me to create a music video.

Methods of Research
– Annotate music videos of different times (from 50’s to 80’s)
– Research on trends of that time, costumes, dance moves
– Understand the trend of each decade and try to use in my music video
– Practice on filming techniques and focus on producing a promotion package
– The kit list that I will be using will be a Canon (and tripod) – logo
