EXPLANATION OF MY FIRST PRELIM VIDEO

I will deeply explain all connotations and conventions of the video. Moreover, I posted another link of the video, already with the connotations on the side. 

First location doesn’t fully represent the school, because it focuses on the sky. Therefore, next time, the establishing shot will focus on the representation of the idea which I want to show, so the audience will gain a deeper understanding and will know what the video is about from the first few seconds of the movie clip. Blue sky and bright sun have connotations of the peaceful and delightful place.

This shot represents not only the place and location, but also creates a peaceful atmosphere which may emphasise the idea that the video takes place in school. Creating a video for the school, it is necessary to show from a good side, as it is peaceful place for studying and it has a good atmosphere for students. Moreover, it had denotations of the school because you can see children in classes and long corridor like in schools.

This shot was not the best as I couldn’t focus on the quality. The audience can see that the camera is shaking, therefore next time I will focus on the quality and will try use tripod or any other holders which will help to hold very camera without shaking movements.

The lighting in the corridor is bright, however, because the light is coming form both sides, the middle is darker than the sides. Next time I need to choose the right places with good lighting or help myself to create good conditions where I can film.

This shot perfectly represents the school. For the promotional video, the shot of the corridor is one of the most common representation of the place. The camera movement (boom) form the down to up, shows the corridor fully, therefore the audience will be able to see the inside of this place in more details.

The shot of the entrance of the school would be the best establishing shot for the video, however I decided to use it later, as at first i wanted to create a peaceful atmosphere. If I would use this shot at first, the idea of the video would totally changed as the video would only focus on the focus, however I also wanted to focus on the atmosphere and the live inside.

However, the orange cone in the middle of the shot doesn’t fit to the grey walls and black sign. Therefore, in order to not make the same mistakes, I would look at the place before taking a good shot.

WHAT I NEED TO WORK ON? IMPROVEMENTS? 

• In the 6^th movie clip, the audience can see that the camera is shaking, therefore next time I improve my video, making sure that all shots are in good quality and taken without shaking.

In my opinion, this shot emphasis the atmosphere of the school. The sun light is coming though the leaves creates an image of a peaceful, charming and quiet place. By taking this shot, I tried to represent that the school is not only the place where students spend their days studying, but also are enjoying, surrounded by the nature. However, a similar shot of leaves was used as an establishing shot at the beginning of the video. Next time I will try to be more creative, by filming different places.

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

The school has a lot of negative conventions because of the created stereotypes. School is represented as a horrible place, where students are not able to enjoy their time studying. However, by making my own promotional video for the school, I tried to show all positives conventions which will show the place (the school) from the another side.

How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

For this project I used Adobe Premium to edit and create the video, form already taken shots. Adobe Premium helped me a lot with making sure I could accurately and qualitatively create the video which will follow all conventions for the promotional video. Later, I used Adobe After Affects in order to add more details to my video. I wanted to write connotations (explaining specific shots) which I thought that they were one of the highlighted throughout my project.
