My equipment

All the used equipment I took from my school. Media department of International School of Moscow could lend me the camera and other necessary equipment for a few days. Camera Canon, I used it for most of my photoshoots that were done for the media project. I thought that one camera would be enough, however for my final photoshoot, I used two camera in order to take a picture of the model form different angles, so it would be easier and faster to do. Moreover I took 2 cameras because I was scared that one of them wouldn’t. work. Because of the importance pf the final photoshoot, I was nervous that something can go wrong, therefore I took 2 of them in case if one won’t work.  However, for other practice photoshoots, I used only one camera because I knew that I would have another chance to retake picture if the camera will break or wont work.

I used my own memory card (4GB) because I wanted to keep all my pictures in one place. Furthermore, I asked for another 4 GB memory card from my school’s media department as I thought that I would take too many pictures and I won’t have enough space. However, during my final production everything went well and I didn’t need to have either extra camera and extra memory card.

I took the camera charger, in case of the camera will stop working during the photoshoot. Im my opinion it is important to have everything during photoshoots as something can break or can go out of charge. Therefore it is necessary to bring all equipment, even if I’m sure that I wouldn’t need it.

For example, I decided to take the flash gun, but I didn’t plan to use it. When we finally got to the place where the photo shoot will take place, the first thing I looked at was all the rooms in the museum. Each room had several windows, but by the time we arrived it was dark outside, therefore so we fully relied our photoshoot on the light in the rooms. Unfortunately, the building is very old, so the electricity is weak and all rooms have very poor lighting, with a shade of yellow. Thanks to the flash gun, I was able to photograph my models so that they could be visible in the dark room and the pictures wouldn’t be yellow.

The last equipment that I used was the reflector. I used the reflector to light up a night portrait of my model with using the flash gun. Moreover, I used it so the quality of the light will match the quality of the light that’s in the scene. I wanted to have photos with high key lighting on, however at the same I wanted to transform the lighting from the room so the pictures would look old. Thank to the reflector, most of my pictures looked old like in 1950s.

Throughout this academic year I have used several times the same equipment.

  • camera
  • memory card
  • reflector
  • tripod
  • camera holder
  • flash gun

All these equipment I have also used not only in my last production, but also for my other preliminary works. I gained a deeper understanding of the use of all the listed objects and by the end of my project I could easily use all of them. I also studies different names of the shots, like middle shot / long or close up shot. Below, I will post pictures of my notes in Microsoft word, to show what I have learnt and how this information I used in my project.
